What are Cone Crushers used for?
Cone crushers are used to produce a more finely shaped road grade aggregate product than with jaw crushers. This fineness results from the grinding action inside the cone crusher, where the rock is ground against a cone and concave, and against the stone itself.
Cone crushers are often called secondary crushers, because they are usually used after jaw crushers (primary crushers) have already broken larger rocks down in a quarry line.
Using a cone crusher is a better option than an impact crusher impactor with hard rock such as granite and basalt, as it uses the rock to crush itself, instead of concentrating all the wear on the blow bars of the crusher. This extends the life of your wear part, leading to lower production costs.

Cone crusher production outputs
Cone crusher production outputs vary according to the hardness of the rock, the reduction (difference between input and output sizes), but mostly because of the size of the crusher. A cone crusher with a 1-metre diameter will produce about 250 TPH (tons per hour), while a 1.3-metre cone will produce up to 350 TPH.
It’s advised to use a cone crusher alongside a jaw crusher, so the cone is the bottleneck in the crushing line, by a narrow margin. This maximises overall production while the cone is choked with stone, so the crushing and grinding action can function efficiently.
