Construction of major roads in Angola kicks off

Work on major roads in Angola is set to begin with over 114 kilometers of roads set for construction. This is after the government through the State secretary for Constructionassigned the project to, Antonio Flor, and the local governor, Paulo Pombolo. According to the government officials Work on major roads in Angola will involve the rehabilitation of road sections connecting the cities of Uige to Negage, through the villages of Calumbo and Dambi and Quitexe / Ambuila / Quipedro. The officials added that the decision came after the government under the ministry of  Transport carried a survey to identify the roads that that were in bad condition. The section Uíge / Calumbo / Dambi / Negage, with a length of 38 kilometers of road to be executed within 14 months is estimated at USD 29.652 million, whose contract is entrusted to the ETSC Chinese construction. The Quitexe / Ambuila / Quipedro section, with a length of 76 kilometers, valued at US$55.718 million will be run by CPP Chinese Company for 14 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor Paulo Pombolo considered that the rehabilitation of these sections will facilitate the movement of people and goods, in view of the advanced state of disrepair that they are. “We want to ensure that we streamline the transport industry which is currently lagging behind as through that we will be also able to  improve the regional trade. On the occasion, the governor asked the Ministry of Construction and Road Institute of Angola rigorous supervision of works, in order to have a greater durability and quality. The governor also added that the funding of the  project have been given by the government and they expect it to  be completed on time. “We are looking in a scenario where we would be able to see all projects completed on time as that will be our number one policy once we identify the best contractor to carry out the project” he added.
