17 May 2017

Danang International Airport has opened a new international terminal capable of handling 6 million passengers per year.

Local media reported several airlines in Vietnam have begun operating flights to and from the new T2 terminal, effective Tuesday.

The new facility includes 40 check-in counters, 42 immigration counters and 10 additional departure gates.

The new venue is expected to serve up to 6 million passengers per year.

Vietnam Airlines said that all of its international flights would now operate from the new terminal.

The airline will occupy 22 check-in counters on the second floor of the building, while baggage carousels and information desks for lost luggage will be arranged in a separate area on the ground floor.

Jetstar Pacific said that all of its international flights were due to move to the new terminal Thursday.

The new terminal will cater to existing international airlines and support growth.

Efforts are underway to attract airlines to serve Japan, China, and Russia from Danang, according to Airports Corporation of Vietnam.

When combined with the old terminal the airport will be able to handle up to 11 million passengers a year. The airport targets 13 million passenger movements by 2020.

The first international terminal at Danang airport was inaugurated on 25 December, 2011, with an annual capacity of 4.5 to 5 million passengers.
