The History of Sigma PlantFinder

12 July 2019
When you’re spending lots of money on machinery that could make or break your quarry or construction project, it’s important to buy from people who know their stuff.

With over 40 years’ experience in exporting reliable used equipment all over the world, you can be confident that our industry experts know more than most other dealers ever could.

In 1975, our current Chairman Adrian James founded James and Sons, a Bristol-based supplier of used vans and trucks. As his family grew, so did the business, moving to North Yorkshire in 1994 and trading as James of Stokesley.

In a new, bigger location, the company moved into plant and brokering, dealing in the Russian markets and switching focus to concrete mixer trucks and tank trailers. At one point, we had the largest stock of right hand drive mixers in the UK.

Growth of our export division in 2007 led to us moving to our current 6-acre home in Middlesbrough, and we began dealing in construction equipment and machinery.

In 2010, we stopped holding machinery in stock – instead building relationships with reliable suppliers across Europe and North America and focussing on providing industry-leading customer service to clients in Africa and the Middle East.

In 2014, we became Sigma Plantfinder Ltd, and now support global construction firms globally with machinery, end-to-end shipping, aftersales services and engineer training.
